Terrible clash over land dispute, 40 injured
A terrible clash took place between two cousins in Nabiganj, Habiganj over a dispute over their house land. At least 40 people, including women from both sides, were injured in the incident.
The incident took place at around 11 pm yesterday, Sunday (October 19) in Paschim Timirpur village of Nabiganj Sadar Union. Local resident Abdul Matlib and his cousin Kadir Mia’s family were involved in the clash.
According to local sources, there had been a dispute over the boundary of the house between the two families for a long time. Recently, dirty water from Kadir Mia’s cowshed fell on Matlib Mia’s land, so Motalib Mia stopped it. At first, there was an argument over this and later at night, both sides clashed with sticks.
40 people, including women from both sides, were injured in the clash. 15 of the injured have been sent to Sylhet M.A.G. Hospital. In serious condition, they are in Usmani Medical College Hospital. The rest have been given primary treatment at Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex.
The doctor on duty at Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex said that some of the injured were in critical condition and have been sent to Sylhet for better treatment.
Tension prevails in the area after the incident. Additional police have been deployed to avoid further clashes.
In this regard, Nabiganj Police Station OC Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman told us that the clash took place due to a property dispute, and the situation is currently normal.
