Temporary expulsion order against NCP leader Nizam Uddin
Nizam Uddin, joint coordinator of NCP’s Chittagong Metropolitan branch, has been suspended after allegations of financial scam and serious breach of party discipline were found to be prima facie true. Earlier, the party had issued a show cause letter (sad notice) to him in a notice signed by Arif Moinuddin, joint coordinator (office) of the city committee, on Monday afternoon. The show cause notice said, ‘A video of you came to the attention of NCP’s Chittagong Metropolitan Committee through news published in various news media in Bangladesh on August 10. As a result, allegations of breach of party discipline have been raised against you. In this situation, you are requested to provide a written explanation to Chittagong Chief Joint Coordinator Mir Arshadul Haque within the next 24 hours as to why action will not be taken against you for violating party discipline.’ Earlier, a video recording of a call to collect 5 lakh taka to stop the Chittagong port-centered movement went viral on social media. There are allegations that after taking 5 lakh taka to suppress the movement at the port, Nizam was asking for another 5 lakh. However, accused Nizam claims that this was an incident in May. Rizaur, the presidential candidate of the Chittagong Metropolitan City of the Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union, beat and detained a man named Rifat and forcibly recorded it. Nizam is also accused of handing over a businessman to the police before receiving 2 crore taka.
