Mild cold wave hovers over Panchagarh, temperature drops to 9 degree.
In Panchagarh district, the mercury in a day’s time has dropped to 9 degrees Celsius from 12 degrees. The fog also increased slightly on Tuesday today. Dense fog alongside icy winds that blow directly from the Himalayas have further increased the acuteness of cold. The residents of this town were at the receiving end of the hard-hitting spell of cold.
While it was 12 degrees Celsius yesterday, in just one day, the temperature has come down to 9 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Meanwhile, the temperature was recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius last Sunday morning. And the temperature was recorded at 9.0 degrees Celsius last Saturday morning. Today, Tuesday, the temperature was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius at 9 am.
While able-bodied people use blankets, helpless low-income people are trying to keep out the cold by wrapping rags of torn Kantha blankets around themselves. Many people try to beat the cold by burning straw at night and in the morning.
Jitendranath Roy, officer-in-charge of the Tetulia Weather Observatory in Panchagarh, said that the temperature in the morning stood at 9.3 degrees Celsius at 9 am today. The humidity was 86 percent. The wind blowing at 6-8 kilometers per hour is carrying a mild cold wave.
