Teenager Abducted by BSF Near Panchagarh Border.
A 15-year-old Bangladeshi teenager Wasim, was reportedly abducted by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from the Senpara border area in Panchagarh’s Sadar Upazila on Wednesday. The incident occurred near Main Pillar 746 in the Amarkhana Union.
Wasim, the son of Rezaul Karim of Senpara village, was allegedly caught while attempting to cross into India with a group of 4-5 other teenagers. The others managed to escape, but Wasim was taken to the Goralbari BSF camp of the 46th Battalion.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has responded by calling for a flag meeting at the company commander level to negotiate Wasim’s return.
Commander of the 56th BGB Battalion in Nilphamari, confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to bring Wasim back. He emphasized ongoing awareness campaigns for border residents to discourage illegal crossings and highlighted the constant BGB patrols in the area.
This incident underscores the continued challenges and tensions at the Bangladesh-India border, particularly concerning illegal crossings and detentions by border security forces.
