Teacher remanded for raping schoolgirl

A fourth-grade student of Elegant School and College in Keraniganj, Dhaka, has been accused of raping the institution’s assistant teacher. South Keraniganj Police have arrested the accused teacher Ramzan Ali (31) in this incident. Later, on Wednesday (December 10) afternoon, the court ordered him to be remanded for one day. Earlier, the victim’s mother filed a case with South Keraniganj Police Station in this incident last Sunday (December 7). Later, he was arrested on Monday (December 8) night.
According to the complaint, the accused teacher Ramzan Ali used to teach the victim at home in addition to teaching at the school. On November 26, when the child returned home from school feeling unwell, her mother took her to a local clinic. After receiving treatment there, she returned home. Two days later, when her physical condition deteriorated, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There, she was taken to the One Stop Crisis Center for examination and it was found that the child had been raped. The child is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical Hospital.
Meanwhile, Anwar Zahid, headmaster of Elegant School and College, said, “Our school’s teacher cannot do such a thing. A group is trying to tarnish the school’s reputation.” The investigating officer in the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) of South Keraniganj Police Station Rafiqul Alam, told us, “We arrested Ramzan Ali after registering a case in this incident. The accused has been sent to court for further questioning and a five-day remand has been sought. The court has granted a one-day remand.”
