Tarique Rahman to return home in November
Ending all speculations, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is finally returning home in November. Multiple BNP sources have confirmed the matter. Before the 13th National Parliament elections, millions of party leaders and activists are expecting Tarique Rahman to return home. Everyone is expecting him to play an important role for the party in the elections. Tarique Rahman has also decided to return home. He has been acquitted of the case filed against him. There is no obstacle to his return home.
A security committee has been formed by BNP on the occasion of Tarique Rahman’s return home. A member of that committee said, we are making security arrangements for the acting chairman for his possible return home on November 23. All work is being done in coordination with the government.
A bulletproof car is also expected to arrive from Japan during this period. It is learned that after returning home, Tarique Rahman will stay at house number 196, Gulshan-2 Avenue Road. Earlier, after the death of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in 1981, the then government allotted this house to his wife Khaleda Zia.
At a press conference on November 25, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that he hoped that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman would return to the country by November. When asked about the specific date of Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “You will know the specific date soon. I hope he will return by November.”
In response to a question about which seats BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman could contest in the national elections, Salahuddin said, “The acting chairman of the party will definitely participate in the elections, he said so in an interview. The seats will be determined later. He can contest from any seat in Bangladesh.” BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been living in exile in the UK capital London since September 2008.
On this day, journalists also wanted to know about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s participation in the elections. In response, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We hope that the leader of the country, Begum Khaleda Zia, will decide on her own whether to contest the election considering her physical condition. We want her to participate in the election.” Regarding the party leadership, Salahuddin Ahmed said, Tarique Rahman is communicating with the leaders and activists day and night, taking advice. This is an important aspect of leadership. Based on that discussion, the nomination process is also moving forward. Salahuddin also said that before the election, the government should act as a supervisor and take steps so that they work regularly. Discussions are underway regarding the behavior of some advisors and their involvement with a party. The chief advisor has been informed about these issues. If the student advisors want to participate in the election, they will decide.”
