Tanker workers in Khulna call off strike, oil extraction begins
The Khulna Divisional Tanker Workers Union has withdrawn its strike after receiving assurances from the administration. Later, fuel oil extraction from the depot began at 8 am today, Wednesday.
The workers said that the work stoppage stopped the extraction and transportation of fuel oil from the state-owned Padma, Meghna and Jamuna oil depots in the Kashipur area of Khulna. As a result, oil supply to 14 districts of Khulna and Faridpur regions was disrupted.
Khulna Divisional Tanker Workers Union Vice President Md. Mosharraf Hossain said, “We have lifted the strike from this morning on the assurance of the Khulna Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. Oil loading has started from this morning.”
The workers started the strike from noon on January 26 to protest the arrest of Ali Azim, General Secretary of the Khulna Divisional Tanker Workers Union. Due to this, fuel oil extraction from Padma, Meghna and Jamuna oil depots and transportation to 14 districts have been stopped for the past three days.
