Tangail election office attacked and vandalized, 2 injured

BNP leaders and activists attacked and vandalized the election office in Gopalpur, Tangail, alleging that party leaders and activists were not working. This incident took place at the upazila election office on Monday (November 10) morning. Two people were injured in this incident. Data entry operator Amjad Hossain was admitted to the upazila health complex in an injured condition.
According to election office sources, the office was attacked and vandalized by putting Awami tags on it, alleging that BNP leaders and activists were not working in the upazila. At that time, the leaders and activists also beat up the election officer and abused him in obscene language. 2 people were injured in this.
In this regard, Upazila BNP General Secretary Kazi Liaquat said that the election officer is involved in various irregularities, corruption and misdeeds. When we went to the election officer’s office with the victims based on the complaint in this regard, he misbehaved.
Gopalpur Police Station OC (Investigation) Mamun Chowdhury said that the incident is not that serious. There was a scuffle between both parties. The glass window of the office was broken. However, he said, the situation is normal now. District Election Officer Tajul Islam said, a case will be filed on charges of vandalism of government offices and beating of government officials. Preparations for the case are underway.
District Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman said, we inspected and found that the government offices were vandalized. If there was any complaint against the election officer, he could have filed a written complaint. He said, if the election officer complains about this, action will be taken.
