Suhrawardy Udyan drive: 4 policemen withdrawn

Four policemen have been withdrawn (closed) on charges of beating students and journalists during an anti-drug drive at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam confirmed the matter on Tuesday (February 24) night.
Earlier, on Monday (February 23) night, the police led by DC Masud Alam conducted an anti-drug drive at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan. During this drive, the police beat up two multimedia journalists, Dhaka University student Nayeem Uddin and some visitors.
When multiple videos of these incidents went viral on social media, it sparked widespread criticism. Then yesterday afternoon, Dhaka University students protested in front of Shahbagh Police Station demanding the removal of DC Masud Alam.
