Students to blockade 3 places in the capital
Students from seven colleges will hold a blockade program at 3 important places in the capital demanding the implementation of Dhaka Central University. The blockade program will be held at the Science Lab, Technical and Tantibazar intersections in the capital from 11 am today, Wednesday (January 14). Earlier, this program was announced in a press release sent to the media on Tuesday.
The release said that the draft of the ‘Dhaka Central University Act-2025’, prepared with the cooperation of seven colleges to establish Dhaka Central University, was published on the website of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on September 24, 2025. After the publication of the draft, various discussions and debates started on the pros and cons of the draft and the Ministry of Education organized several consultation meetings with all the stakeholders concerned.
The students claim that the Ministry of Education has updated the draft based on the opinions received after discussions with the stakeholders. The last meeting of the Ministry of Education with the students during the ongoing sit-in program towards the Education Building was held on December 7 and 8, 2025. In that meeting, the students were assured to complete all the related activities by December and issue the ordinance in early January.
The notification also said that according to a source, there is a possibility of a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Interim Government on January 15, 2026. The students want the updated draft of the Dhaka Central University Act-2025 to be approved in that meeting and at the same time the final ordinance to be issued by the President.
In this situation, a blockade program has been announced at various places in the capital on January 14 as a point of demand. The notification also mentioned that if the demands are not implemented within the stipulated time, the students will continue their agitation program to achieve this logical demand.
