St. Gregory School and College closed indefinitely.
The authorities have declared St. Gregory High School and College, located in Laxmi Bazar in the capital’s Old Dhaka, closed indefinitely. The decision has been taken in the wake of widespread vandalism at the educational institution, it is learnt.
This information was given in a notification signed by the college’s Father Brother Placid Peter Ribeiro CSC on Monday.
The notification said that as per the decision of the school’s board of directors, all classes, examinations and office activities of the school’s morning shift, day shift and college branch will remain closed until further instructions are given after reviewing the emerging situation.
It also said that the cleaning and repair work of the school is very urgent and time-consuming. The school’s activities will resume as usual as soon as everything is in order.
Earlier, around 5 pm on Sunday, students of Suhrawardy and Kabi Nazrul Colleges vandalized the nearby St. Gregory High School and College in protest of the attack on Suhrawardy College.
Teachers and staff of the college said that at least 50 rooms, including classrooms and teachers’ rooms, were vandalized. In addition, the canteen was attacked and money was looted and a teachers’ room on the second floor was set on fire.
