Speedboat accident kills woman, child in Netrokona, bodies recovered
The bodies of another child and a woman have been recovered after a speedboat sank after colliding with a fishing boat in the Dhanu River in Netrokona’s Khaliajuri Upazila. Locals saw two bodies floating in the Dhanu River in Panchhat village on Sunday (September 14) morning. The deceased were identified as Mosammat Laila Akhter (7) and Shirin Akhter (18). Earlier, the body of Ushamani (7) was recovered on Saturday afternoon. Another child named Samia Akhter is still missing. The accident took place in the Dhanu River in Charpara village of the upazila on Friday (September 12) afternoon. Four people, including three children, went missing in the incident. So far, the bodies of three have been recovered. Police and locals said that the speedboat sank in the Dhanu River in Charpara village of Panchhat village in Khaliajuri Upazila of the district. There were at least 15 passengers, including women and children, on the speedboat. After the incident, other passengers managed to swim to shore, but four of them are missing. Khaliajuri Upazila BNP President Abdur Rob Swadhin said that the rented speedboat was brought to take the wedding party of Rana Mia, son of Nawab Mia of Andhair village. However, just before the wedding party left, 15 people went out to roam around in the speedboat. That’s when the accident occurred. Khaliajuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Maqbul Hossain confirmed the recovery of the bodies.
