Son kills father, stuffs him in drum over pressure to study medicine

A gruesome murder case has taken place in Lucknow’s elite Asiana area over pressure to study medicine. After the police arrested the accused Akshat Singh on February 23, a 21-year-old youth shot his father dead and then chopped his body into pieces and hid it in a blue plastic drum. Details of this gruesome incident were revealed yesterday (February 23).
The deceased, Manvendra Singh (49), was a liquor merchant and owner of a pathology lab. According to the police, the father and son had a heated argument over studies in the early hours of Friday (February 20). Manvendra wanted his son to quit his B.Com and prepare for NEET to become a doctor, but the son did not agree. At one point in the argument, Akshat shot him with his father’s licensed rifle. The brutal incident took place in front of Akshat’s younger sister, who was studying in class XI. He was also threatened with death if he said anything to anyone.
After the murder, Akshat dragged the body from the third floor of the house to destroy evidence and cut it into several pieces using household appliances. He dumped the body’s limbs in a car in a secluded area on the outskirts of the city and hid the torso and head in a blue drum in a room on the ground floor of the house. Police have learnt that Akshat hatched the plot after being inspired by a controversial drum-murder case that had taken place in Meerut a year earlier.
The family filed a missing person’s diary three days after Manvendra went missing. However, suspicions arose after police found inconsistencies in Akshat’s statement during interrogation. Later, the police raided their house and recovered the blue drum.
The accused youth initially fabricated a suicide story, but under rigorous interrogation he confessed that he had been planning the murder for a year. The deceased Manvendra’s wife had died 9 years ago and his father was a retired officer of the Uttar Pradesh Police. This incident has created a huge stir across Lucknow.
