Son arrested for killing father and hiding body
A father was beaten to death in Khurushkul, Cox’s Bazar Sadar due to a family dispute and then the body was stuffed in a sack and buried next to his house. The police have arrested the accused son in this incident. It is learnt that the incident came to light at least 36 hours after the murder.
On Tuesday evening (September 16), a police team reached the Kurimariachhara area of Dakshin Dailpara in Khurushkul Union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila after receiving information. Later, the body was dug up and recovered with the help of locals at around 9 pm.
It is learnt that the deceased Mohammad Syed (50) is a resident of the same area. The arrested person Mohammad Rafiq is the son of the deceased Mohammad Syed.
Locals said that the deceased and the arrested person are father and son. There was a long-standing family feud between Mohammad Syed, his wife and children. He had come to the Kumariachhara area of Khurushkul with his family from the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia a few years ago. The entire family is Rohingya.
Locals, including the deceased’s neighbors, said that a strong stench spread around Mohammad Syed’s house on Tuesday evening, which raised suspicions among the locals. At one point, some local residents, while searching for the source of the stench, found a shirt buried next to his paddy field. The police were informed about the stench by calling 999. Later, a police team reached the spot, removed the soil and recovered the body in a bag.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station OC Ilyas Khan said that the police initially suspected that the incident was due to a family dispute.
He said, “Upon receiving the information about the incident, a police team visited the spot. Later, with the help of locals, the police removed the soil and recovered the wrapped body. The deceased’s son Mohammad Rafiq has been arrested on charges of involvement in the incident.
He said that after filing a case, a drive will be launched to identify and arrest the others involved.
He also said that the body of the deceased has been kept at the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
