Shibir’s landslide victory in Chaksu elections, heated campus

After DHAKSU and JAKSU, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel ‘Sampritir Chhatra Jote’ has won 24 posts including VP-GS in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Chaksu). Through this, Shibir returned to the leadership of Chaksu after 44 years.
According to the results announced early on Thursday (October 16), Shibir’s Md. Ibrahim Hossain (7,983 votes) became VP, and Sayeed Bin Habib (8,031 votes) became GS. Chhatra Dal won only one post—Ayubur Rahman for the post of Joint General Secretary (AGS).
Shibir candidates were also confirmed to win in most of the halls of the Union. However, Chhatra Dal expressed dissatisfaction with the results and alleged rigging and protested against the university administration. At that time, they briefly detained Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Md. Kamal Uddin.
Additional police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed due to tension on the campus. The Election Commission has not yet announced the full results.
