‘Shapla Kali’ added to EC’s symbol list

‘Shapla Kali’ has been added to the list of symbols of the Election Commission (EC). This symbol was added by amending the election code of conduct today (October 30).
This information was published in a gazette signed by Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. The notification said that the Election Commission, by virtue of the powers conferred by Article 94 of the Constitution of 1972, has further amended the ‘Election Code of Conduct, 2008’.
It further said, ‘Instead of sub-rule (1) of rule 9 of the above rules, the following sub-rule (1) shall be substituted. Subject to the other provisions of these rules, any contesting candidate may be allotted any one of the symbols mentioned below, subject to availability, except the symbol suspended under section 20 of section 20.’
The Shapla Kali symbol is present in the list of symbols.
