Shahbag blockade demanding justice for genocide

Family members of the martyrs of the July Uprising have blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding justice and government recognition for the massacre. They blockaded it at around 11:15 am on Thursday. This has brought traffic to a standstill in the area.

Relatives of the martyrs’ families say they will not leave the road until they meet with the interim government’s chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus. They made various demands at the time.

The demands are – The accused must be arrested within 10 days for the purpose of trying each murder. The martyrs and injured brothers must be given state recognition. Arrangements must be made for the quick rehabilitation of the martyrs’ families. A fair honorarium must be given after discussing with the martyrs’ families. Arrangements must be made quickly for the monthly honorarium of the martyrs’ families.

Earlier, relatives of the martyred families held a rally near Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Shahbagh from 10:30 am to 11:45 am today. They were seen holding pictures of the deceased and placards calling for justice.

At the time, the martyred families criticized the ongoing judicial process in the July massacre. At the same time, the protesters also announced that they would not leave Shahbagh intersection until their demands were met.

When asked about this, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said, “The protesters have blocked Shahbagh intersection. We are trying to control it.”
