Senator protests Gaza in front of Australian PM
In a heated moment in the Australian Parliament, Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi held up a placard reading ‘Gaza is hungry, words will not feed them, ban Israel’ in front of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The Senate later imposed disciplinary measures on her for the incident. Following the incident, the Australian Senate voted 50-11 to take disciplinary action against Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi. Senate President Sue Lines said, ‘Senator Faruqi has breached Senate rules by using a placard carrying a political message. It is inappropriate to involve the Governor-General and the Chief Justice in a political debate.’
