The police have recovered the hanging body of a schoolgirl named Jaitimani (15) in Muladi, Barisal. The body was recovered from the Bailey Bridge (city) area of Muladi Municipality around 10 pm on Tuesday (January 27).
Jaitimani is the daughter of the late Ripon Roy of Nayarbari village in Kotalipara, Gopalganj district. Her mother Jhuma Sarkar is an assistant teacher at Muladi Government Mahmudjan Secondary School. Jaitimani was a class 10 student of that school (2026 SSC examinee). Family members said that she committed suicide after being asked to leave her mobile phone behind for studies.
Jaitimani’s mother Jhuma Sarkar said that her daughter returned home a little late yesterday evening after finishing her private studies. Around 9 pm, she started looking at her mobile phone instead of studying. She was asked to leave her mobile phone behind and study as the SSC exams would begin in a few days. At that time, Jaitimani got angry and locked the door of her house with her mobile phone. When she called for food at around 9:30 pm, she did not receive any response and saw her daughter’s hanging body through the gap in the door and screamed. Later, around 10 pm, the Muladi police station police came and recovered the body.
Jhuma Sarkar further said that Jaitimani loved her father Ripon Roy very much. After the death of her father, the daughter’s mental balance had broken down. For some time now, she had been saying that she would go to her father.
Muladi police station OC Arafat Jahan Chowdhury said that the schoolgirl’s body was recovered at night. Initially, it is believed that she committed suicide out of pride for her mother.
