School teacher dies after being burnt in gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur

Shaheda Ahmed, the principal of Dhaka Oxbridge International School, who was burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur, has died while undergoing treatment. She died at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka on Sunday (March 29) morning.
The incident took place on Wednesday (March 25) night in Gazipur village of Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila. She is a resident of the village and the wife of Gazipur High School President Professor Jasim Uddin. He lived in Dhaka.
Gazipur Union Parishad Administrator Md. Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said, “She was burnt in a gas cylinder explosion on Wednesday (March 25) while cooking at home during the Eid holidays. Her body caught fire during the explosion. People around her, including family members, immediately pumped water and tried to put out the fire.” After being taken to a local hospital for primary treatment, she was admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka when her condition deteriorated. She was kept on life support in the ICU there, but she died today while undergoing treatment.
The deceased’s husband Md. Jasim Uddin said, “Most of her body was burned in the cylinder explosion. We quickly took her to a local hospital for primary treatment. After that, her condition did not improve even after being admitted to Dhaka.”
Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nasir Ahmed said, “A woman died due to burns in the cylinder explosion. The real cause of the incident is being investigated by talking to the family of the deceased and people around her. The police have visited the scene and started a preliminary investigation.”
Locals said that the cylinder explosion also damaged nearby houses. After the explosion, people in the area left their homes in panic and went to a safe place. The police and fire brigade quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
It is worth noting that such accidents have rarely happened in Sripur, Gazipur before, but experts believe that such accidents are difficult to prevent if cylinders are not used properly and maintained regularly.
