Saudi Arabia’s instructions regarding Taraweeh prayers
Saudi Arabia has issued instructions not to broadcast Taraweeh prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. The country’s state news agency, Saudi Press Agency, reported on Thursday that the government has issued new instructions on the use of cameras in mosques. The live broadcast of Taraweeh prayers has been banned there.
The instructions state that footage of the prayers cannot be broadcast on any type of media. This step has been taken mainly to protect the sanctity and environment of the mosque.
Authorities said that this decision has been taken to ensure that worshippers are not disturbed and that imams can lead prayers properly.
In addition, permission has not been given to collect funds for organizing Iftar mahfils at mosques. The ministry said that Iftar mahfils must be held through the appropriate authorities and health and safety measures must be ensured.
