    Saudi Arabia has carried out a record 300 executions this year.

    The Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia. This year, the country has executed more than 300 people accused of various crimes.

    The total number of executions in the country has exceeded the annual record with the execution of four new people on Tuesday.

    A statistic by the French news agency AFP has presented such an account of the executions in Saudi Arabia.

    Citing the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the country’s state-run news agency Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said, “Three people convicted of drug smuggling and one accused of other crimes were executed on Tuesday.”

    According to a state media report, “A total of 303 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia this year, including those four people. Which is the most compared to any previous year.”

    Regardless, 200 people were executed in the Gulf country of Saudi Arabia by the end of last September. In this regard, Saudi government statistics say, ‘The rate of executions in the country has increased rapidly in the past few weeks.’

    Meanwhile, according to the UK-based international human rights organization Amnesty International, Saudi Arabia executed the third highest number of prisoners in the world in 2023, after China and Iran.

    Previously, the country had the highest record of executions in a single year in 2022. That year, a total of 196 people were executed in the country for various crimes, according to Amnesty International.

    It is worth noting that this London-based human rights organization began keeping annual records of executions in Saudi Arabia since 1990.

    Meanwhile, Taha Al-Hajji, legal director of the Berlin-based Saudi human rights organization European Saudi Organization for Human Rights (ESOHR), condemned Saudi Arabia’s ‘rocketing pace’ of executions in 2024. At the same time, he called this speed of executions of the highest penalty ‘incomprehensible and inexplicable’.

    Human rights activists have previously warned that the number of executions in Saudi Arabia this year could exceed 300, with one execution recorded almost every day in the country.
