Salman Shah murder case: Actor Don to surrender to police

The country’s popular film star Salman Shah died mysteriously at the peak of his career. His body was recovered from his residence in Eskaton in the capital on September 6, 1996. Although the incident was initially shown as a ‘suicide’, the family has been claiming that it was a planned murder.
Nearly three decades later, a new twist has come to the investigation of the case. Recently, Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque granted the plaintiff’s revision petition and ordered the case to be treated as a murder case. Following the court order, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Alamgir Kumkum filed a new murder case at Ramna Police Station on October 21.
A total of 11 people have been named as accused in the case. Among them are Salman’s ex-wife Samira Haque and actor Don. The actor gained fame in films by playing villainous roles.
Meanwhile, actor Don, an accused in the case, has said that he will surrender to the police soon. Don said, “Everyone is saying that I am a fugitive. I have not run away for 30 years, why will I run away now? I am at home. I think I will surrender to the police in a day or two. Because I have been suffering for 30 years. This needs to be resolved.”
On the other hand, Salman’s ex-wife Samira Haque has always denied the murder charges. In an interview last year, she said, “It is not my fault that Salman committed suicide. He had attempted suicide three times before.” However, since the new court order, there has been no new statement from Samira.
Salman Shah and Don were once close friends in the film industry. That friendship is now questionable to many. The case, which has come to the fore after almost 29 years, is showing new hope to Salman Shah’s fans. Their hope is that this time the real killers will be unmasked. Meanwhile, the police have already sent their information to immigration authorities to prevent the accused in the case from leaving the country.
