Russia has long had a strategic eye on Donetsk, Ukraine

The Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine has long been in Moscow’s sights. According to a report by the British media outlet BBC, Vladimir Putin is demanding control of all of Donetsk as a condition for ending the war. Russia already controls about 70% of Donetsk, as well as almost all of Luhansk — and Russian forces are gradually advancing. The streets of Donetsk are almost empty due to the Russian offensive. Those who remain are leaving their homes only to get food or essential goods. The city has been almost deserted and has been without water for a week. In addition, every building has been damaged — some completely destroyed. A week ago, small groups of Russian troops broke through the defenses around the city. However, Ukrainian authorities say the situation is now stable. However, most residents of Dobropilya believe that it is time to leave.
