Rumin Farhana group’s argument with NCP leader in EC

BNP leader Rumin Farhana group members clashed with NCP joint chief organizer Ataullah during the hearing of claims and objections regarding the boundaries of the parliamentary constituencies. The hearing began at 12 noon on Sunday (August 24) at the Election Building. Among the constituencies where the hearing of claims and objections regarding the boundaries was held today were Brahmanbaria-2 and Brahmanbaria-3. At one point, people from both constituencies in the district became agitated. They got involved in scuffles and arguments. Later, EC officials brought the situation under control. Participating in the hearing, Barrister Rumin Farhana presented her arguments in favor of the draft published by the EC. While several others presented their positions against the draft. Those who participated in the hearing against the draft said that three unions from Bijoynagar upazila – Budhasti, Chandua and Harashpur have been added to Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. They demanded that the upazila be kept intact. Rumin Farhana said, it is a sad incident, a fight has taken place. I thought that no one from Brahmanbaria-3 would enter the EC with a goon. This does not go with the image, honor and dignity of the commission. I want to say that the EC’s decision is correct; I hope it remains so. I did not want to bring any goons. What has not happened in 15 years has happened today. The BNP leaders for whom I fought are now pushing. On the other hand, an NCP leader has accused Rumin Farhana of not allowing the other side to speak. This is basically the beginning of the uproar. It is worth noting that the EC is hearing the claims and objections of the Comilla region on the first day of the hearing. The hearing will continue until next Wednesday.
