Rizvi’s comments: Voting will not be neutral under Awami League-era officials
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has demanded the removal of ‘Awami cadres’ from the administration for fair elections. He made this demand after paying homage to the tomb of party founder Ziaur Rahman at the initiative of the newly formed BNP committee of Nilphamari district in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday (August 18) morning. Calling on the Election Commission to appoint neutral officials at the field level, Rizvi said that free and fair elections will be held in February. But fair elections will not be possible with the Awami era administration. Therefore, Awami cadres must be removed from the administration. Stating that the people are not ready for the proportional representation (PR) system, he said that elections under the PR system are not suitable for Bangladesh. There is doubt about the motives of those who demand PR. During a question-and-answer session with journalists, Rizvi expressed hope that all views would be represented in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections and said that a fair educational environment is maintained if there are student representatives in the university.
