Rehabilitation of Awami League associates is on.

Despite the political change, National Housing Authority (NHA) is desperately trying to appoint some officials who were beneficiaries from the then ruling Awami League to lucrative posts. Various allegations were raised against Kazi Atiur Rahman, a member of the National Housing Authority, for appointing beneficiaries who sat idle in important zones of Dhaka in lieu of money since the fall of the government on August 5.

It is alleged that he is rehabilitating Awami League associates and transferring officials from his area to important zones one after another, behind which there is a huge financial transaction. It has created a panic among the qualified, talented, and marginalised officials during the Awami government. Lots of officials are being transferred without any reason within six months, which is against the rules of the NHA.

Although the NHA authorities say that the transfers have been made in a systematic manner, there is no question of injustice to anyone here. However, according to information provided by several Jagrik officials, most of those being brought to Dhaka are beneficiaries of the Awami League, they were also in important positions during the previous government.

Among them, one is the deputy assistant engineer of Khulna subdivision, Debain Chandra Sarkar. This Debain Chandra Sarkar is the cousin of former MP Pankaj Nath from Barisal-4 constituency. A number of posts on his verified Facebook page promote the Awami League. Although a government officer, he is seen regular promoting activities for a political party. In the previous administration, he introduced himself before Pankaj Nath as the near one. It is also known that exercising influence of the then ruling party he used to hold posts of Additional Deputy Commissioner as an additional duty where he used to hold posts of Deputy Assistant Engineer. He has been sent to Dhaka again. Sources say that he was transferred to Dhaka on the regional quota of Kazi Atiur Rahman and in exchange for money.

Several officials seeking anonymity told our time that Mirpur is identified as the most important area in Dhaka Division. How an official tagged with the Awami League was transferred here at this time is also their question.

Aklima Khanam is another lucky official from Awami League. She is also a very trusted aid of the former senior secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, as well as a former prime minister’s constituency coordinator Shahid Ullah Khandaker, and her personal assistant too. Recently she has been posted to Mohammadpur Housing Estate, Dhaka from Sylhet as a Housing Administrative Officer. Sources further state that Kazi Atiur Rahman sent her to Dhaka in return for a hefty amount of money.

Khulna Housing Estate Administrative Officer Ruhul Amin received a good posting during the Awami League period. After the Awami League government fell on August 5, she was transferred to Khulna. Sources say that he was posted as an administrative officer of Mirpur Housing Estate in Dhaka against a huge amount of money within less than six months. According to government service rules, if he is transferred somewhere, he has to stay there for at least three years.

SM Tariqul Hasan has been transferred on regional quota. He has been attached to the post of Deputy Assistant Engineer (Civil) and Executive Engineer Planning and Design Division Sub-Divisional Engineer’s Office (Mirpur).

Moreover, despite several allegations of irregularities against the administrative officer Md. Arifuzzaman of Mirpur Housing Estate, he has been attached to the Segunbagicha office of the National Housing Authority as an additional responsibility along with the Comilla administrative officer. A report with evidences of various types of irregularities by this officer had come out earlier in our times also. Authority acted as deaf and blind, rewarding instead of acting upon him against these. Same thing has been repeated this time also.
