Now, reforms are being talked about every day, just like Sheikh Hasina used to talk about development: Amir Khasru.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has made such a comment. He made this comment while exchanging views with the C&F traders in his residence in Mehedibagh, Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon, organized by Chittagong Deprived Traders Forum.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “There has been a change in the mentality of the people of the country. We all want change. The 31 points from our side are everything, nothing is left. I don’t know what reforms they will make. We will fully implement our 31 points in the coming days.”

Explaining the background of the 31-point declaration, this BNP Standing Committee member said, “BNP is not alone; almost 50 parties have discussed and debated and then did this for six months. This did not come about by chance. We have done this long before Sheikh Hasina fled. We did not see anybody who then talked about reforms. Nowadays every day, reforms, and reforms – just the way Sheikh Hasina said development and development, they are saying reforms, and reforms. We gave out the reforms long ago. What will you reform?

He said, ‘Reforms must be done with people’s opinion. Reforms will be done in parliament with the people’s mandate that will be sustainable through democratic process. For which we fought for 15 years, we have been disappeared, murdered and imprisoned. False cases have been filed against 6 million BNP leaders and activists. They have fled, lost job and are living in paddy fields and embankments.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘We will do a major liberalization of the economy in Bangladesh, this is our party’s decision. We will relax the economy. We will reduce the role of bureaucracy. Here, after going through so many steps, businessmen are affected.’

Former commerce minister Abdur Razzak said, “Businessmen have a very important role to play in reducing the prices of commodities. If you can play that role transparently, the country will benefit and you will be respectable too.”

He said, “Those who have looted for so many years have no right to return. They do not need to return. They are worth hundreds of thousands of crores of taka…. They do not need to do business anymore. They only need to go to jail now.”

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury added: “Sometimes I hear that Sheikh Hasina communicates with her people from outside and gives orders. I hear those who are absconding from various associations also give orders. Those who are taking orders are brought forward, identified and reported to police’.

Presided over by SM Saiful Alam, convener of the Deprived Business Forum and moderated by Rokon Uddin Mahmud, director of the forum, C&F businessman Rokon Uddin Mahmud, former president of BGMEA, advisor to the BNP Chairperson SM Fazlul Haque, convener of Chittagong Metropolitan BNP Ershad Ullah, member secretary Nazimur Rahman, member secretary of the Deprived Business Forum Shahidul Islam Chowdhury spoke at the meeting.
