Rashed Khan is the opposition alliance’s candidate for Jhenaidah-4 constituency
The name of Rashed Khan, central general secretary of the Ganadhikar Parishad, has been finalized as the BNP candidate for the Jhenaidah-4 parliamentary constituency. He himself confirmed this information over the phone at 2:16 am on Tuesday (December 23).
Rashed Khan said that he was announced as the candidate for Jhenaidah-4 constituency at a meeting held at the BNP office in Gulshan, Dhaka last night. BNP standing committee member Salauddin Ahmed, Khulna divisional acting organizing secretary Anindya Islam Amit and Jhenaidah district BNP president MA Majid were present at the meeting.
He said, “BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has agreed to be a candidate on the condition of holding a public meeting in Jhenaidah-4 constituency before the election.” Meanwhile, he also said that BNP will make a formal announcement very soon. In response to a question about his position in the People’s Rights Council if he becomes the BNP candidate, Rashed Khan said, “He will continue to fulfill his duties in the People’s Rights Council.” However, Rashed Khan’s home is in Muraridah village of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. He is the son of Nabai Biswas. He is currently serving as the central general secretary of the People’s Rights Council. Meanwhile, the news of Rashed Khan’s candidacy has led to mixed reactions among local BNP leaders and activists of Jhenaidah-4 constituency. A section of the leaders and activists have demanded that BNP nominate one of their own leaders in this constituency. It is worth noting that the name of the BNP candidate has been announced in only one constituency out of the 4 parliamentary constituencies in Jhenaidah district so far. Since candidates have not been announced in the remaining 3 constituencies, discussions and curiosity in the party arena are increasing day by day.
