Rape and murder of expatriate’s wife during sehri in Ukhia

A brutal incident took place in the early hours of last Sunday (March 1) in Haldia area of ​​Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar. Lala Bibi (30), wife of Malaysian expatriate Abdu Shukkur, was having sehri when miscreants entered her house and raped and then killed her.
Family and locals said that they heard screams and found Lala lying unconscious in the house located on the hill of Madhughona Khala in East Marichya. The deceased has injury marks on her neck and head. The elder brother of the deceased’s father-in-law, Abdul Alam, has alleged that she was killed by strangulation and physical torture after being raped. The family believes that the incident may be related to a long-standing land dispute.
Ukhia Police Station OC Nur Ahmed said that it is initially believed that more than one person may be involved in the incident. Injury marks and initial signs of rape were found on various parts of the deceased’s body. The police inspected the scene and prepared a report and the body was handed over for autopsy.
After the autopsy, the deceased was buried in the family graveyard after Iftar on Tuesday. The family filed a complaint with the police station at 11 pm. The operation to arrest the accused is ongoing.
