Rajshahi College starts investigation one year after Chhatra League attack

The college administration is finally going to start a formal investigation one year after the Chhatra League attack on ordinary students at Rajshahi College. The college authorities have taken this initiative in view of the long-standing demands of various student organizations. A notice published on the Rajshahi College website on Tuesday (July 8) stated that as part of the investigation into the violent incident that took place on the college campus on July 16, 2024, eyewitness testimony will be taken at the teachers’ auditorium on Thursday (July 10) at 11:30 am. Information and evidence will be collected from teachers, students and employees on that day. The notice further said that victims and eyewitnesses have been called upon to be present with information to investigate the violence committed against ordinary students during the “July Revolution” and its preceding period. In this regard, Khalid Bin Walid Abir, convener of Rajshahi College Chhatra Dal, said, “We welcome this initiative of the Rajshahi College administration. We will monitor the activities of the investigation committee and provide all possible cooperation in a fair investigation.” On the other hand, Mosharraf Hossain, secretary of the college student wing, said that after submitting several memorandums, the administration has finally started an investigation. We want the Chhatra League workers involved in the attack to be brought under academic and legal proceedings. Their names and photos should be published and banned from the college campus. He also said that visible action should be taken against the accused in the month of July Revolution. Otherwise, this investigation will become meaningless. Rajshahi College Principal Professor Md. Zahur Ali said that information and evidence have been called from those who were eyewitnesses on the day of the incident. Necessary action will be taken based on the information received. It is worth noting that on July 16, 2024, when students of Rajshahi College participated in the movement in solidarity with the quota reform movement, Chhatra League leaders and activists ambushed ordinary students on the campus. Although a year has passed since that incident, no formal investigation has been started so far.
