Raid in Sundarbans: Two robbers arrested with weapons and ammunition

The Coast Guard has arrested two notorious robbers with weapons and ammunition during a raid in the Sundarbans. Lieutenant Md. Khalid Saifullah, the navigating officer of the BCGS Swadhin Bangla ship in Mongla, confirmed this information in a press briefing on Wednesday (August 6) morning. The arrested are Md. Badsha Gazi (45) and Mehedi Hasan (27)—both residents of Paikgachha police station in Khulna district. They are associates of the notorious robber Asabu Bahini of the Sundarbans. In the press briefing, the Coast Guard said that on Tuesday afternoon, based on secret information, an expeditionary team from the Coast Guard Base Mongla conducted a raid in the Sharbatkhali area adjacent to the Shibsa River in the Sundarbans. During the raid, the Coast Guard chased a group of robbers while they were preparing to rob. When the Coast Guard tried to escape, two blank shots were fired after calling for their surrender. Later, two associates of the notorious Asabu gang of robbers of the Sundarbans were arrested along with 3 single-barrel guns, 10 rounds of live cartridges, 5 rounds of blank cartridges and weapons-making equipment. During initial interrogation, the detainees said that they had been involved in robberies and supplying weapons, ammunition and supplies to the gang for a long time. The process of taking further legal action against the arrested robbers and the seized evidence is ongoing. Even the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to free the Sundarbans from bandits.
