Putin and Trump to meet on August 15
The much-awaited meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will take place on August 15. The two leaders will meet in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. Reuters reports. US President Donald Trump himself announced this information on Friday. At a press conference held in the Oval Office after the Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement, he indicated that Russia and Ukraine are very close to a ceasefire agreement. Later, in a post on Truth Social, he confirmed that a meeting with Putin would be held. In addition, Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov said that the two leaders will discuss various options to achieve a long-term peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis. On the other hand, in his address to the nation on Friday evening, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that a ceasefire is possible if appropriate pressure is applied to Russia. He said that he has held more than a dozen talks with leaders of different countries and that his team is in constant contact with the United States. It is worth noting that since taking office as US president for his second term in January, Trump has taken various diplomatic steps to end the Moscow-Kiev conflict. He has also threatened new sanctions on Russia. US Special Representative Steve Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow last Wednesday. Both sides described the talks as fruitful.
