Protests erupt across Tel Aviv over Gaza issue

A nationwide strike has been observed in Israel against the Netanyahu administration’s plan for the Gaza issue. The capital Tel Aviv has taken a turbulent turn due to the mass protests. According to BBC, About 500,000 people joined the protest rally held in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square on Sunday (August 17). On this day, people of all classes and professions gathered with Israeli flags and pictures of hostages at the call of an organization called ‘October Council’. They demanded the release of Israelis held hostage by Hamas and an end to the ongoing operation in Gaza. The procession and slogans were blocked by blocking the main road. Offices and educational institutions were closed on this day. The protesters faced obstacles from security personnel as they set off for the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At least 40 people were detained during this time. The protests have spread to about 300 other cities, including Jerusalem and Haifa. It is worth noting that the Gaza war began after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. According to the Health Ministry of Hamas-controlled Gaza, more than 61,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks so far. The United Nations considers these figures reliable. According to the United Nations, about 90% of the people of Gaza, or more than 1.9 million people, have been displaced and there is widespread malnutrition.
