Protest in Rangpur against Chinmoy’s arrest.
Followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote and principal of Pundarik Dham, have taken out a protest march in Rangpur to protest the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. The protest march left the religious gathering at Jahaj Company Crossing in the city at 8:30 pm on Monday and returned to the town hall.
At one point, pedestrians clashed with the protesters. Two journalists and several others were injured during this. Later, two army vehicles and members of the Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene and tried to calm the situation. Later, they blocked the road at Jahaj Company Crossing and protested.
A protester named Jiban Kumar Roy said, “Our peaceful procession was attacked. 4-5 people were injured in this.” We want Chinmoy’s unconditional release and justice for the attack on us.’
The agitators said, ‘The repression has started because the Sanatanis have become vocal in demanding their rights. We will continue the movement until our demands are met.’
Earlier, Chinmoy was scheduled to fly from Dhaka to Chittagong on Monday afternoon. At that time, the Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested him from the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Additional Police Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rezaul Karim Mallick, confirmed his arrest. He said, ‘The DB has arrested him following a request from the police. He will be handed over to those who have applied.’
It is worth noting that a case was filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 others on October 30. A person named Md. Firoz Khan filed the case with the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong city as the plaintiff. The case was filed under the Sedition Act on charges of insulting the national flag.
The law enforcement agencies arrested two people immediately after the case. They are Rajesh Chowdhury and Hridoy Das.
The accused in the case are Chandan Kumar Dhar Prakash Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the principal of Pundarik Dham Temple, Ajay Dutt (34), the coordinator of the Chittagong Hindu Jagran Mancha, Leela Raj Das Brahmachari (48), the principal of the city’s promoter ISKCON temple, Gopal Das Tipu (38), Dr. Kathak Das (40), Engineer Amit Dhar (38), Roni Das (38), Rajiv Das (32), Krishna Kumar Dutta (52), Jiku Chowdhury (40), Newton De Bobby (38), Tushar Chakraborty Rajiv (28), Mithun De (35), Roop Dhar (35), Rimon Dutta (28), Sukanta Das (28), Biswajit Gupta (42), Rajesh Chowdhury (28) and Hridoy Das (25). An unknown number of 15 to 20 people have been named as accused in the same case.
It is learnt that Chinmoy Krishna Das is serving as the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Mancha. He is known as Chinmoy Prabhu to the followers of Sanatan Dharma. He is also the principal of Pundarik Dham.
Recently, two organizations, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Mancha and Bangladesh Sammilit Minjarlaghu Jote, started organizing programs under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote’. Chinmoy Krishna Das was made the spokesperson of this new alliance. Last Friday, the Sanatani Jagran Jote held a Rangpur divisional rally with 8-point demands.
