Professional Council pays tribute to martyr Dr. Milon’s grave
On the occasion of Martyr Dr. Milon’s Day, Bangladesh Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad paid tribute to Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan Milon at his grave. At this time, Fateha was recited and special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness for the martyr’s soul. This tribute was paid at the grave located in the Dhaka Medical College premises this Wednesday morning.
Present at the time were Bangladesh Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad Convener Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Member Secretary Quader Gani Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, Dr. Abdus Salam, Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Dr. Rafiqul Islam Labu, Engineer Sakhawat Hossain, Engineer Fakhrul Alam, Biplobuzzaman Biplob, Hafizur Rahman and others.
On this day in 1990, during the height of the movement against Ershad’s dictatorship, the organizer of the movement and Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Medical Association, Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan, was martyred by terrorists unleashed by the Milon government. Milon’s sacrifice gave new momentum to the movement against the dictatorship of that day. Finally, Ershad’s dictatorship fell through the student-mass uprising. Since then, Martyr Dr. Milon Day is being observed every year.
While paying tribute at Milon Square, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain told reporters, “Fascist Hasina and dictator Ershad were people of the same principles. Both wanted to remain in power through bloodshed. But the people of Bangladesh are a nation of heroes. They have repeatedly saved this country and its democracy with their lives.”
He said, “On this day, we want a humane Bangladesh free from killings, disappearances and torture. Where there will be no fear. There will be equality-based justice. A ‘humane Bangladesh’ will be built, which has been clarified in the 31 points of the BNP.”
Quader Gani Chowdhury said, “We do not want any more dictatorships or fascists on the soil of Bangladesh. Fascist politics must be eradicated forever. All disappearances and murders must be tried. We must build a country where there will be no fear. Everyone’s voice will be heard. There will be no persecution of boys and girls to leave the country. It will be a country of pride.”
Those who still have blood on their hands must be tried first, he said, “Children and mass murderers must be brought to the country, they must be tried.”
