Prime Minister’s message on National Martyrs’ Day – We will remain united against any conspiracy against the interests of the country and the people

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that we will remain united against any conspiracy against the interests of the country and the people, this should be the resolution of Martyrs’ Day. He said this in a message given on the occasion of National Martyrs’ Day today, Wednesday (February 25).
The Prime Minister said, ‘February 25 – National Martyrs’ Day. On this day in 2009, a massacre was committed against soldiers at the BDR headquarters in Peelkhana. 74 people, including 57 army officers, were martyred in this massacre. Since 2009, the day has not been observed with due importance. In 2024, since the country became free from fascism, the day is being observed as ‘Martyrs’ Day’. On this special day, we seek forgiveness from the martyrs of the army massacre. We express our deep condolences and sympathy to their bereaved family members.’
Noting that the trial of the army killings in Peelkhana is ongoing, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, “There is no time to talk in detail about the pending matter. However, I think it is important for us as citizens to understand that behind this killing there was an act against the independence and sovereignty of the country and the people. After this killing, there has been an attempt to mislead the people with various lies or misinformation.” The Prime Minister also said that the armed forces are a symbol of the honor, valor and glory of an independent country. So that no one else is involved in conspiring against the armed forces in the future, today we must once again stand firm in that oath. Finally, the Prime Minister said, “We will stand united against any conspiracy against the interests of the country and the people – this should be the resolution of Shaheed Sena Diwas.”
