Press Wing names instigator behind Gulshan house raid
Three people have been arrested in connection with the attempted vandalism and looting of the Gulshan house of former Awami League MP Tanvir Imam’s ex-wife in the name of a search, the press wing of the interim government’s chief advisor said.
A statement sent from the press wing of the chief advisor’s office on Wednesday said that based on information that a large amount of illegal money, weapons and Awami League associates were hidden in the Gulshan house, 20 to 25 people broke the door and entered in the name of a search on Tuesday midnight. On the pretext of a search, they entered the house and tried to vandalize, loot and loot it.
After receiving information through 999, the DC of Gulshan Zone, OC of Gulshan Police Station and members of the army arrived at the scene at 12:30 am. Three people were arrested from there and the process of filing a case against them at Gulshan Police Station is underway. The arrested persons are Jewel Khandaker (48) and his son Shakil Khandaker (24), Shakil Ahmed (28).
Initial investigation revealed that Shakil Ahmed (28) used to work as a caretaker in the house. He had incited the public to search the house by giving information that Tk 200 to 300 crores could be found.
Earlier, at around 10:30 pm the day before yesterday, a group of people tried to enter the house on the same pretext. Later, the police arrived and persuaded them to leave.
The press wing of the chief advisor further said that in this incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs has again warned that no one should take the law into their own hands. If any crime is committed, the nearest police station has been called upon to be informed. The government is striving to maintain law and order in the country and is determined to ensure the safety of the people.
