President satisfied with Election Commission’s preparations, instructions to conduct fair elections
Before announcing the schedule for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, held a meeting with President Md. Shahabuddin. The meeting was held at the President’s residence Bangabhaban on Wednesday (December 10) afternoon. The CEC was accompanied by four election commissioners and EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
In the meeting, the CEC briefed the President about the overall preparations for the elections. The President expressed satisfaction with the EC’s preparations and directed it to take all necessary steps to make the elections acceptable and fair. The President assured the EC that he would provide all necessary assistance in conducting fair elections. EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed made this remark at a briefing after meeting the President at Bangabhaban.
He said that the meeting discussed the addition of the order of voter lists, registration of political parties and holding a referendum on the day of the parliamentary elections. In addition, the voting time has been extended by one hour and the President has been briefed on the overall content of the EC. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Television and Betar have been called to the EC at 4 pm today to record the CEC’s speech to announce the schedule for the 13th National Parliament election. As per tradition, the schedule is given on the day of recording the speech and the day the EC meets the President.
