Pregnant woman’s body recovered 7 days after disappearance

Seven days after her disappearance in Muksudpur, Gopalganj, police recovered the body of a four-month pregnant housewife named Iti Begum (21), wrapped in a sack, from a pond near her house. Initially, law enforcement agencies are treating it as a murder. It is learnt that the deceased’s husband and in-laws are absconding since the incident.
The body was recovered from Layek Sheikh’s pond in Latifpur village of Gobindapur union on Sunday (November 30) night. The deceased Iti Begum is the wife of Layek Sheikh of Daulatpur village of Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district and daughter of Idris Ali.
According to local sources, Iti married Russell Sheikh about three years ago. There had been strife and disputes in their marital life since their marriage. Iti had been missing since she left home on November 24. Three days after the disappearance, on November 27, the husband Russell filed a general diary at Muksudpur police station. Last night, locals saw a sack floating in a pond near the house and informed the police. Police reached the spot and recovered Iti Begum’s body from inside the sack. Muksudpur police station (OC) Mustafa Kamal said that when the body was recovered, the housewife’s hands, feet and face were tied with cloth. Initially, it seems to be a murder. The husband and his family members are absconding since the incident. The matter is being investigated seriously. The body has been sent to Gopalganj morgue for autopsy.
