A pregnant wife was allegedly tortured by her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law in Agarpur village of Salanga police station in Sirajganj for not getting dowry money. The complaint states that husband Sagar Ahmed kicked his wife Sathi Khatun in the stomach and killed her unborn child. On Monday (July 14), the victim, Mosh. Sathi Khatun (25), filed a written complaint with Salanga police station. The complaint states that Sagar Ahmed from the same village got married to Sathi in a cabin for three lakh taka about four years ago. After the marriage, the family lived well for a few days, but recently Sagar demanded four lakh taka as dowry to go abroad. When the wife did not agree to this demand, Sagar and his family continued to physically and mentally torture Sathi. The complaint further states that on July 8, during an argument over money, Sagar Ahmed kicked his pregnant partner in the stomach and threw her off the bed. This seriously injured Sathi Khatun. Later, when she was taken to the doctor, it was revealed through ultrasonography that her three-month-old baby had died. Sathi Khatun is currently undergoing treatment. She alleged, “My in-laws regularly tortured me for dowry. My husband also has relationships with multiple women. I want justice for this brutal incident.” Sathi’s elder brother Sajib said, “My sister was subjected to inhuman torture. They not only beat her, they also killed the baby in her womb. I want justice for this.” However, despite repeated attempts to contact the accused Sagar Ahmed on his mobile phone, his statement could not be obtained. In this regard, Salanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said, “I have received the victim’s complaint. The matter will be investigated seriously and legal action will be taken.
