Prabhir Mitra (83), a well-known character actor of Dhaka cinema, is no more, who is better known as ‘Rangin Nawab’. The veteran actor died in treatment at the capital’s Square Hospital on Sunday at 10:10 pm.
Confirming the news to the media, Prabir Mitra’s daughter-in-law Sonia Yasmin said, ‘After Zohr, the first funeral of my father will be held at FDC. Then it will be broadcast on Channel I, after which another funeral will be held there, and my father will be buried at the Azimpur cemetery.’
Prabhir Mitra had been hospitalized since December 22 with various physical complications.
National Film Award winner Prabir Mitra started his acting career by acting in the ‘Lalkuti’ theater group. Later, he made his big screen debut with the film titled ‘Jolchhobi’ under the direction of director H Akbar. Although he was seen in the lead role at the beginning of his career, he has been seen in most films as a character actor.
Prabir Mitra started acting when he was a student of class seven. Prabir Mitra debuted in Bengali cinema with the film ‘Jolchhobi’ by director H Akbar, where he played the role of a doctor. Then he acted as the lead role in the film ‘Jibon Trishna’ by the same director. He acted as the lead role in films like ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Nam’, ‘Chabuk’, ‘Nawab Sirajuddaula’.
Ajanta Mitra, wife of Prabir Mitra, died in the year 2000. Prabir Mitra has one daughter and three sons.
