Portugal decides to recognize Palestine as an independent state

Another European country, Portugal, has decided to recognize Palestine as an independent state. The Portuguese Foreign Ministry announced this in a statement on Friday (September 19).
The Foreign Minister said that the informal recognition will be announced at the UN General Assembly session. The Portuguese Prime Minister met with the president and members of parliament before finalizing the decision.
Amid the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, one country after another has recognized Palestine as a state. Recently, influential countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia have decided to join this list.
