Policeman’s younger brother murdered over love affair

In Habiganj’s Baniachong upazila, a younger brother was hacked to death over a love dispute with his elder brother.
The incident took place on Wednesday (October 22) afternoon in Balakipur village of Subidpur union of the upazila. The deceased college student’s name is Shamsuzzaman Chowdhury Sadek (18). He is a first-year HSC student of Habiganj Government Brindaban College.
The deceased Sadek is the younger son of Khalequzzaman Chowdhury of Kagosha village of the upazila. They have been living in Balakipur village for a long time.
According to police and local sources, Khalequzzaman’s eldest son Enayetuzzaman Chowdhury is a policeman. He developed a love affair with Tasnia, daughter of Maulana Seraj Mia of the same village. When the matter came to light, Enayet sent a marriage proposal to Tasnia’s family, but they did not agree. About three-four months ago, Tasnia eloped with her boyfriend Enayet and married him.
The incident was a long-standing dispute between the two families. As a result, Enayet’s younger brother Sadek was hacked to death with a sharp weapon by his wife’s relatives, including his brother-in-law, on Wednesday afternoon. He died before the locals could rescue him and take him to the hospital.
The deceased’s mother Shariful Begum said, “My elder son Enayet was in love with Seraj’s daughter Tasnia. When Seraj proposed marriage, she did not agree. Later, Tasnia voluntarily ran away with my son and married him. Since then, they have been threatening to kill us. They have systematically killed my younger son.”
Baniachong Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman told us, “The murder took place due to a dispute over the love of a boy and a girl. We are conducting a drive to arrest those involved.”
After the incident, angry locals surrounded the house of the killers. However, Tasnia’s parents and family members managed to escape.
