Police verification will no longer be required to apply for a passport.

Police verification will no longer be required for passports. The Home Ministry’s Security Services Department has issued a notification canceling the police verification system for passports. This information was given in a notification signed by Kazi Golam Tausif, Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry’s Security Services Department, on Tuesday.

The notification stated that in the case of applying for a new passport, applicants will have to issue passports without police verification based on the information of the national identity card verified online. In the case of new passport applications for Bangladeshi citizens and minors residing abroad, applicants will have to issue passports without police verification based on the information of the birth registration certificate verified online.

It also said that in the case of re-issuance of a passport, if the basic information required with the existing passport (own name, parents’ names, date of birth, place of birth) changes, it can be issued using the information provided in the national identity card.

Earlier, last Sunday, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that police verification will be removed from passports. That day, he said, “Getting a passport is a right of citizens.”
