People’s desire to vote in elections will be fulfilled: Legal Advisor

People have not been able to vote for 18 years, but the desire of the people to vote will be fulfilled through the next election, said Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul. He said these things at a press conference at the Law Ministry on Thursday (July 31) afternoon. Stating that people’s expectations were very high after the July uprising, he said that although many expectations could not be fulfilled, much notable work has been done. The sections of the law on crimes against humanity have been reformed and made contemporary and international standards. He also claimed that this was a breakthrough. In addition, the sections of the criminal law on arrest and remand have been amended. New policies have been formulated to make the judiciary independent and prevent corruption in the judiciary. He said that initiatives have been taken to withdraw political and harassment cases, for which the Law Ministry has recommended the withdrawal of more than 16,000 harassment cases.
