Parties agree on cabinet decision to declare state of emergency

Political parties have agreed to make provisions for declaring a state of emergency based on the decision of the cabinet, not only on the advice of the Prime Minister, but also by including the opposition leader or deputy leader. On Sunday (July 13), the parties agreed on amending the constitution in this regard during the 12th day of the second round of discussions between the political parties and the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. Earlier in the morning, in his opening speech, the Commission’s Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz said that the Consensus Commission wants to reach a reasonable point by July 31 in any process to create a national charter. Stressing on the rapid creation of a national charter through consensus on basic issues, he said that the Commission will meet with political parties for three days this week. And the Commission Vice-Chairman expressed hope that there will be major progress in the discussions this week.
