    Palak, Shah Kamal remanded, 4 others shown arrested in separate cases.

    The court has sent former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak on a three-day remand in the case of shooting dead Chhatra Dal leader Manik Mia in Chankharpul in the capital on August 5 during the student-public movement, and former Secretary Shah Kamal on a two-day remand in the case of killing Jubo Dal leader Shamim in an attack on a BNP rally on October 28, 2023.     Two cases of murder of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders: Yesterday morning, the investigation officer of the case, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Sheikh Hadiuzzaman, accused Junaid Ahmed Palak, and the investigation officer of the Shamim murder case, Motijheel Zonal Team Sub-Inspector Ferdous, presented the accused Shah Kamal to the court and requested to be remanded for seven days each.

    For the state, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui held a hearing in favor of granting remand. For the accused, lawyer Farzana Yasmin (Rakhi) canceled the remand and filed a bail application.     Gaan Bangla seizure case: On November 25, a person named Syed Shams Uddin Ahmed filed a case against five people including Gaan Bangla’s managing director Kaushik Hossain Taposh. In this case, Taposh’s wife, the chairman of the company Farzana Munni, Ravi Shankar Maitree, M. Amanullah Khan (Chanchal Khan), Syed Nabil Ashraf were made accused. Syed Shams Uddin alleged that Kaushik Hossain Taposh and his people took over the ownership of the channel by threatening him with weapons and beating him. The court recorded the plaintiff’s statement that day and ordered the OC of Gulshan Police Station to accept the complaint as a complaint.

    A hearing was requested in the court on December 4 in this case. The court had fixed December 9 as the hearing date. Accordingly, Taposh was produced in the court from jail yesterday. Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqi heard the matter of showing the arrest for the state. Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman, after the hearing, granted the application to show Taposh arrested in the case of alleged seizure of the Gaan Bangla channel. Earlier, the police had arrested Taposh in a murder case on the night of November 3.

    Kamrul, Menon, Mamun, Moshiur, Kiron arrested in new case: Yesterday morning, the police applied to show former Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam, Bangladesh Workers’ Party President Rashed Khan Menon, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Lalbagh Division Moshiur Rahman and former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asaduzzaman Kiron as arrested in a new case. They were produced in court from jail during the hearing.

    Among the accused who applied to be arrested, Kamrul Islam was arrested in two separate murder attempt cases of Kamrangirchar Police Station in the capital, Rashed Khan Menon in a case of Motijheel Police Station, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and Mashiur Rahman in a case of Chawkbazar Police Station, and former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asaduzzaman Kiron in a case of Uttara Paschim Police Station. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah approved the application to be arrested and ordered them to be sent to prison.

    After the court approved the application to be arrested, the lawyer on behalf of Kamrul Islam wanted to hold a hearing on the bail issue. Then the court said that the bail hearing would be held in the administrative court. At this time, Kamrul Islam told his lawyer that there was no point in filing a bail application in this court. Then his lawyer again addressed the court and said that we have another application. Kamrul Islam wants to meet his son. If you give me some permission, then Kamrul Islam said to the court, “My son is a doctor. I need to meet him.” Then the court said it would order the matter later.
