Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to visit Dhaka
Amid the rapid development of Dhaka-Islamabad bilateral relations, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit Bangladesh on August 23.
The Pakistani media outlet The Dawn reported this in a report on Tuesday (August 12).
The report said that since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year and the subsequent escape of the ousted prime minister to India, there has been a significant improvement in trade and bilateral relations between Dhaka and Islamabad.
Ishaq Dar was scheduled to visit Bangladesh last April. When Dawn asked about the news of his visit to Bangladesh on August 23 on Tuesday, he confirmed the matter.
A Bangladeshi media outlet had published the same news last week, the Dawn report mentioned, which said that Imhak Dar would “discuss ways to strengthen coordination with Bangladesh” on August 23.
The Dawn reported that the report said that, among other things, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will meet Bangladesh’s foreign affairs adviser on August 24.
Last month, Pakistan and Bangladesh agreed to grant visa-free access to diplomatic and official passport holders of both sides. According to the Dawn report, the landmark agreement in principle, which marks a turning point in bilateral relations between the two countries, was signed during a meeting between Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh’s foreign affairs adviser.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch visited Dhaka in April to consult the Foreign Office.
Also, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the Bangladesh interim government, over the phone in March, where the two leaders reiterated their common desire to further strengthen bilateral relations.
