Pakistan ready to increase trade with Bangladesh: Commerce Minister assures

Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan has assured of increasing mutual cooperation between the two countries in matters related to import-export and direct shipping, including other matters of mutual interest. He made this assurance while visiting Chittagong Port on Friday (August 22). He paid a courtesy call on Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman. Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin was present at the time. When the Pakistani Commerce Minister expressed interest in knowing the overall status of Chittagong Port, especially the port’s board of directors, container and cargo handling, labor management, foreign investment and automation, various development indicators of the port, these issues were highlighted. He expressed satisfaction with the overall improvement and progress of Chittagong Port. Referring to foreign investment, he said that Hutchison Port Group is operating a container terminal at Karachi Port Trust and Abu Dhabi Port of the United Arab Emirates is operating a bulk terminal. DP World is also operating a terminal at Port Qasim on a long-term contract. After the meeting, the Pakistani delegation inspected the operational activities at the port.
